This workshop introduces narrative-based approaches to writing that support and enrich architectural research. We will explore techniques for shaping research material into compelling stories, learning how to dramatise architectural content without losing analytical depth. Special attention will be given to balancing object-focused investigation (such as buildings, drawings, archives, and spatial practices) with reflective and theoretical writing that incorporates literature references, citations, and methodological frameworks.By the end of the workshop, students will gain strategies for crafting writing that not only communicates research effectively but also engages readers and reveals the critical and experiential dimensions of architectural inquiry.
Ellis Woodman is an architect, editor, architecture critic and director of the Architecture Foundation.
The workshop will take place in the PhD Research Room, Stevens Building, Kensington Campus.
