Francesca Romana Forlini will present her research at the 16th International Docmomo Conference in Tokyo. The conference focuses on the theme "Inheritable Resilience: Sharing Values of Global Modernities". Francesca's paper is titled "From Within: Uncovering Cultural Domesticity" and opens up theoretical reflections on the fate and value of post-war estates by bringing forward a cultural understanding of housing interiors based on domestic material culture and immaterial, enculturated practices. This new approach, that looks at the ever-changing nature of daily life and, consequently, the shifting notion and manifestations of cultural heritage, explores the rich cultural dimension of modernist housing interiors. It then proposes an alternative theoretical and analytical framework for the assessment of the architectural and cultural value of post-war housing that starts, precisely, from within.
